Chanukah came early this year in the form of a leaked copy of Teen Dream, the Beach House album to be released in 2010. I feel like Leonardo DiCaprio in that movie about the new Beach House album leaking.

Red Aunts - All Red Inside
In Bay Ridge this morning, I stopped into a Salvation Army and happened to find this gem of a CD. Back when I was in 8th Grade and I compulsively collected Epitaph Records’ “Punk-O-Rama” compilations, Red Aunts was one of the bands that I thought was too weird to listen to. Now I realize that they, along with New Bomb Turks and maybe a handful of other bands, were the only bands worth hearing (sorry, Pennywise). This album, Saltbox, has some really cool packaging, too. Check it:

Patti Smith Group - Pumping (My Heart)
Powerful enough to thwart its own cheesiness. And Patti Smith never looked finer than she did in the picture on this album’s sleeve.
The supposed story behind this clip from the Gong Show is that Chuck Barris (with whom I am fascinated) brought this act in to distract the censors from some of the raunchier acts he had in his show. The plan was that they would get all huffy about the simulated fellatio and ignore all the other, less offensive things he was trying to slip by. The censors, however, didn’t comprehend how dirty this was, so they let them on to do their “act” anyway. Chuck Barris was surprised but unfazed.
I hope your memory of animorphs is as good as mine, because EYE totally get this joke.

This evening a producer/writer for Saturday Night Live came to talk to my class, and it managed to convince me to watch this week’s episode. Usually this show is god-awful, but this sketch made me laugh. Even January Jones was good in it, and she can hardly speak English.
